Investment casting is an old manufacturing process which has been used for thousands of years. Suppliers of investment casting machine now offer machines with a number of advanced features. However, the casting method is still the same.
The first step of investment casting process is production of plastic, wax, or polystyrene patterns that are heat-disposable in nature. These patterns are then assembled on gating system of investment casting machines. Refractory slurry is then used to cover or “invest” this pattern assembly. After covering the assembly, it is milted for removing pattern material. The mold is then fired to eliminate last traces of pattern material.
This step is followed by pouring or molten metal to completely fill the mold cavity. While pouring is generally achieved with the help of gravity, investment casting machine manufacturer offer machines that use pressure or vacuum for pouring. Once the mold is filled, molten metal is then allowed to solidify in the shape of casting. The time required for this solidifying and cooling depends on the thickness of mold, of part, as well as material that is used.
